Running / Walking / Cycling Groups
I’m in a “running” group, part of the international LGBTI Frontrunners. Some run, some walk and the morning group meets for breakfast afterwards, the evening group meets for dinner. Although drawn together by an interest in fitness we also have other group social activities. While we exercise we talk, because there is time. The group comes from diverse backgrounds – accountants, teachers, IT professionals, builders, librarians, nurses, lawyers, social workers, government workers, students. The group has been an invaluable information pool. The accountants have given financial information, the IT people have helped with computers and cell phone upgrades, the builders have helped people moving house, government workers have helped each other in job applications and upgrades, the interior designer given ideas for house renovations, the librarians in suggesting cultural events we could attend or current events. It is the most successful information grounds I can imagine, as we come together with some basic cultural commonality (LGBTI) an external interest (the fitness) and have enough knowledge, trust and caring for each other that we are willing to integrate and share.
